This may seem very incongruous for this blog, but bear with me.
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, I received an e-mail from a Yugoslavian artist whose work I had posted on my regular blog. It read as follows:
Hi Henry,
I hope your week is going well!
My name is *** *********, I'm the artist that was featured on your blogger blog post entry many years ago:
I'm writing to request a removal of my work from your page as it
still shows up in Google search results. I no longer have a positive
relationship with this client, and would like my previous work related
to the client removed from the web.
Thank you for understanding, and please let me know if you have any questions.
I replied:
It saddens me to hear this. Personally, as an artist, I would want people to see my work, regardless of who I did it for or what the situation was with them years after-the-fact.
You're the first person who has ever asked me to take something like this down. I'll do it, but I hope you realize, the whole point of ALL the work that went into putting those pages up (at absolutely NO profit to myself whatsoever) was to have the COMPLETE RUN of the Bible feature available for people to read, easily.
Frankly, I'd be flattered if someone spent all those hours at their own expense just to show off my work. I'd count it as "free publicity".
He then replied:
Thank you so much for your prompt response Henry!
While I completely understand what you mean, and I very much appreciate you featuring the work—these illustrations are in no way representative of my current work, so having them visible only harms my current brand and potential relationships with other clients.
And to further clarify— the relationship with the client was far beyond a small simple issue, and I just don't want to be associated with them in any shape or form, especially when it comes to the Biblical illustrations.
I do really appreciate you taking care of this, and I really appreciate your understanding!
I don't want all this work to be completely lost, so I'm setting it up here, on a blog that I feel is more "out of the way". I'm going to remove his name so as to prevent it coming up in Google Search. Hopefully this will eliminate the problem.
